Lower Arroyo

Want to commute quickly to one of America’s major cities by car or Metro from a pleasant, clean, and culturally significant suburb? You could find what you’re looking for in Pasadena, California.

Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles County, California, that is home to about 141,000 people. These residents range in age from college students to retirees. While Pasadena is home to a wide range of people, there is a common thread when it comes to residents’ appreciation for the city’s many parks, museums, restaurants, and fitness centers.

Lower Arroyo is a fantastic place to call home.

As the name implies, Lower Arroyo is a Pasadena, neighborhood located south of Brookside Park and revolving around the Arroyo Seco. Bordering it to the south is Columbia Street, to the north is Holly Street, to the east is Orange Grove Boulevard, and to the west is San Rafael Avenue.

The Arroyo Seco Bridge, which crosses Colorado Street, is the most recognizable structure in Lower Arroyo. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for the United States is also located in this area.

A sign at the entry near the crossroads of Arroyo and Norwood Street identifies the area at the base of the Arroyo Seco, along both sides of the flood control channel, as Lower Arroyo Park. The only name given to it on the City of Pasadena’s website is “Lower Arroyo Seco.” The park’s 150 acres are home to miles of pathways perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

San Rafael and Cleveland Elementary Schools, Blair Middle School, and Blair High School all serve the Lower Arroyo community, while Mayfield Senior High School provides a private option for high school students. Metro Local lines 180 and 256, as well as Pasadena ARTS route 70, all stop within a mile of Lower Arroyo, but none of them get any closer.

Although Pasadena is sometimes treated as a suburb of Los Angeles, it is in fact a fully-fledged city in its own right. It’s sizable enough to provide big-city excitement while remaining intimate enough to feel like home. While there are certainly a fair share of people who moved to Pasadena from elsewhere in the country, many of the city’s citizens have moved there from other parts of the Los Angeles area in quest of more room, more greenery, and better value for money.
